Ultimate search results / listings / classifieds site checklist

In my career, I’ve worked at 2 of Ireland’s busiest and biggest classifieds listings sites and have come up with a list of default/standard features that are common to most sites of that sort. Some of these I’ve implemented on menucosm, some are in the pipeline and I guess some aren’t applicable. For certain ones, e.g. save to favourites, you can either implement proper user accounts, or save the info in your local/sessionStorage. Hopefully I’ll add to this list over time, but here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

2 gems each in Barcelona and Lisbon

While building the site over the summer, I’ve gone on a few holidays for some much needed sun and fun. I quite like city breaks and eating out in restaurants but depending on the city, it can be quite hard to find somewhere decent to eat, namely ‘cos a) all the places near the tourist traps are poor quality and over-priced, b) ‘local’ places can seem intimidating if you’re not up-to-speed on the local language and c) the sheer size of a city like Barcelona makes it harder to find the true gems. So, here’s a few tips I’ve come across while in Barcelona and Lisbon, derived from recommendations from locals as well as friends.

First Post

So, first of all, let me introduce myself and explain the site’s name and what it’s all about. I’m David and have been a web developer in Dublin for the last 5 or so years. I’ve often found myself with friends in town looking for a nearby restaurant and been very dissatisfied with existing menu aggregators, especially their mobile side and location-specific searches. I think there’s so much more they could offer, both for customers and the restaurants themselves and I hope this site will ultimately provide alot of great functionality for both sides.
